I have an MRI tomorrow. Any information on what to expect will be more than welcome. :) I don't know what the machine looks like, what the prep is or anything, so anything you have - experience, a nurse or doctor, whatever...

I had an MRI and I wish someone told me what to expect before going in...so here are the details of my experience.

It may not have been as bad, if I was not Claustraphibic, but I am and therfore, I was pretty uncomfortable and scared through the whole thing. I took a sedetive to relax - as per the doctor's orders 10 mins before the MRI, BUT it did not kick in. So if you are going to take one, take it at least 30-40 mins before, so It will kick in.

If you are not claustrobphobic, you may be fine.

Some details to be aware of:

Your head is put into a 'groove' and very thick padding is placed over both ears - casue the MRI is loud. It sounds like drilling in a construciton site.

I hear some hospitals give you music through an earphone, but mine did not.

A metal cage will be placed over your face/head, this contains the magnet that rotates and takes the images. This is approx. 1 inch over your face.

You CAN NOT move a muscle while the scans are taking place. My scans were anywhere from 5-7 mins at a time.

You hold a panic button that you can press in case of wanting to be removed at any time, but you will have to put back in and do the scan again.

If you are not claustrophobic, then it should not be a problem, if you are, then please, take a sedative first - it's not a pleasant experience, but once you are lying there, just think that you have made it that far, and turning back would be pointless, casue you'd have to someday return to the hospital to do it again.

Overall - just remain clam and think about pleasnt thoughts while you are in there and you will do fine.

This all depends on the type of machine they have. There is an Open Mri that is roomy . This is for people who might get clostrphobic. The one use most often is like a tunnel sort of.Change into a gown. You lie down on the table that is narrow.(sometimes they give you dye intraveinously so they can see the images better, some times not). The table then moves inside. it is a little snug. When they start the imaging you must lie still. It sounds like someone taping on the outside with a small hammer slowly at first ,then it speeds up.This takes a little while for them to do these. It is painless. Nothing really to it at all. Some people dont like the closeness of it, Bit don't think about it and you'll be fine.I have had several over the years done.

Remove anything metal, it is a giant magnet. you will have to wear a gown. And MRI looks similar to a CT scan machine, just a little tunnel or circle with a table that slides through it. Sometimes they will give you a a contrast fluid either intravenously or orally. Sometimes not depending upon what you are having imaged. You need to remain very still. But the whole test is painless.

The only thing that is a little surprising about an MRI is they are quite loud.

you ought to get a grip!! Screaming and inflicting drama would not make it much less annoying for each individual. do no longer stay on the previous reviews. assume that that's been long adequate which you have outgrown your phobias. attempt finished rest. rather, you clench each muscle extremely tight then close your eyes and count quantity backwards as you relax each and each muscle group separately from the feet to the knees to the thighs etc. as quickly as you have the staggering journey of having a authentic expert insert the IV for the assessment, you will extremely ask your self what you ever nerve-racking approximately. I constantly ask if the guy is a authentic vampire. people who answer oh yeah. or you wager. are extremely good at their interest. inflicting no soreness in any respect to the affected person. (it is in TX, idk in the event that they call themselves vamps the place u r) have u ever asked for a sedative? I even have lots of buddies who can't even do MRI's devoid of one. Ask your mum and dad approximately that. you ought to take it a million/2 hr forward to be calmer while u desire it good success p. s. purely you are able to administration the way you react to existence's issues. the extra advantageous you preserve it, the extra advantageous you experience approximately who you're!

In my experience, it's good to have a nurse stand by your side just for security. It's pretty tight quaters, but it's all good - you'll be just fine. I know it can be nerve-wracking (anything to do with health is), but it's good your getting yourself checked out. It'll be over before you know it :) Good Luck
