A man I was seeing for a couple of weeks just told me that my being a non-drinker was a dealbreaker for him. Needless to say, I am somewhat surprised by this turn of events. He is not a wine "expert" but says he enjoys the social interactions with his partners when having a good bottle of wine. I understand we all have "dealbreakers" in choosing partners, but this one threw me. It's never been an issue with past partners who seemed to be more into wine than this guy was. I'm fine with it, decided all I can do is move on, haven't known him that long, but was just surprised at this news.

Well Openwater I like yourself am an abstainer at present. Have been clean and sober for a number of years. My fiance is the exact opposite of this man of which you speak and has informed me that the dealbreaker would be if I was to take up using alcohol again. She is a social drinker and even with this does not drink that often. I have been in other relationships and some I suppose thought it was a bit strange that I do not take part in consuming booze. This fella sounds like a strange duck if he was bothered because of your sobriety and/or non use of wine, as it would only be more for him. Ha! Regardless in my opinion you made a wise choice by not seeing this individual again and hopefully soon you will met a man who will accept you for who you are and not for what you do or do not drink. Best of luck.

I've heard of recovering alcoholics not dating drinkers, but nope, never heard that one! A little strange.

No not at all, I hate drinking my ex girlfriend didn't reject me for it, I didn't smoke cigarettes either which for her was a plus because she hated that, but most of all she hated weed so I didn't get rejected if I drunk once, but then she became a hypocrite and left me for my best friend who smokes, pothead, heavy drinker, jobless, but they didn't get together.......Sorry about that little side note....
