I want to teach my lab some new tricks. She already knows sit, stay, paw, roll over, sit pretty, and high five. What are some other great tricks and how do I go about teaching them to her.

You can teach your dog to crawl by first getting her to lay down, and then holding a treat near the floor very close to her. Tell her to crawl, and slowly advance the treat forward. If she gets up, start over and hold your hand on her back gently so that she doesn't get up.

You could also try teaching her to balance something on her nose, like a treat. This requires a very obedient sit-stay. You might want to hold her head at first while telling her to stay. Start off having her balance it there for a very short period of time, then give her the treat. Gradually increase the amount of time you let her hold it there.

You might also try teaching her to "take a bow". Whenever she stretches, quickly tell her to "take a bow" and give her a treat while she's in the position. Take advantage of when you see her having a nap. She will stretch right away after every nap.

Anyway, those are a few suggestions. It's great that you're teaching your dog tricks. This helps her to know that you're the leader, and it's a good way to have fun together.

I love training my dogs. Many times, I look for something they do naturally and then build upon that. My 5 yr old terrier loves to hit things with his paws just as a natural act. I taught him to swat my foot whenever I say, "Where's my foot?" by extending out a foot and waiting for him to offer even a little step towards that foot, which I then rewarded. Aha! He didn't take long to start offering the "hit the Mama's foot with my foot" behavior, and when he was doing it whenever I put my foot out and looked at him, I named the trick.
I like to teach a "spin", too, and I don't know how else to teach it except by luring. that is, have your dog follow a treat in your hand in a tight circle to the left or right. You eventually fade the use of the treat, and use just your hand for the dog to follow. Reward after each successful try. Then, you make your hand circle smaller/farther away, so the dog knows to circle when he sees you move your hand. Again, don't name the behavior until your dog is doing it reliably.

an common one to instruct is nice and left... Take a cope with and function him persist with it to the splendid or the left in a circle(on an identical time as giving the suited command). It incredibly makes human beings think of your canines is a genius! additionally, instruct him wave! Ask for a extreme 5, yet carry your hand a splash farther away. Then he's waving! Your canines ought to continuously be waiting to examine! The "you may no longer instruct an previous canines new tricks" asserting is rubbish! solid success!

I always thought a great trick was to teach a dog to go to a certain place, like their bed, on command. I use the command 'go-lay' and my Dobe knows it means to find her bed and lay down.

I encouraged her by giving the command, walking her to her bed, giving her a treat and then praising her. Eventually, she didn't need me to take her there or give her the treat. It's great for when guests are a little afraid of dogs.

I also taught her to never poop while on a walk. Not as dramatic, but very useful.

Good luck.

I always think it's cute when dogs do "army crawl". That's when they are laying down on their bellies and using their front paws they sort of creep forward. My husband did the teaching, but I think he did it by putting a treat just out of reach for the dog while he (the dog) was laying down. He'd keep inching up to get it. If he got up from a laying down position he'd take the treat out of reach until he laid back down.

The army crawl is one of my favorites to watch.

Another entertaining trick is the old "bang bang" where you fake pointing a gun with your hands, and then they play dead. Its really amusing.

You can also try teaching her to get certain things for you, like the remote, or a magazine, etc.

If she's a lab, fetch should be pretty easy to teach! They are usually so proud to retrieve when given praise and can't get enough of it.
