probably should wait for a dog until you have a place with a yard and your schedules are better suited.....

I do not think the timing is right for you both to get a dog. Its a very big repsonsibility, and you should probably wait until you both live together, or at least until you both live somewhere that dogs are allowed in both places. The dog will need a yard, and a lot of excersize, regardless of its size. This would be a commitment for the next 10-15 years of your life, don't rush into it.

I can tell you from personal experience, my ex-boyfriend and I got a dog, and after 4 years of living together we broke up, he kept the dog. That was the most heart breaking experience of my life, its not worth it. As if breaking up isn't hard enough as it is, imagine losing your dog in the process.

Wait a little longer, for your sake, and definitely for the dogs.

Dogs thrive on stability. A dog will be much happier if he has a solid place to live, rather than being switched around a lot. If the dog will be living with your boyfriend, it makes the dog your boyfriend's property. No offense, but if your relationship was to suddenly break up, what would happen to the dog?

The dog will be his, so if he doesn't want a dog, I don't think you should try and talk him into getting one. A dog is a lot of responsibility, and he'll have to do a lot of reading up on training the dog to be well-behaved. Remember that dogs live for 12 years or more. If he isn't ready for the commitment of dog ownership, please don't force him into it. It'll end up being way better on both of you and the poor dog in question.

Well, I hope everything works out, and I have a few reasons to make him want to get a dog. Most dogs make perfect watch dogs. So if there is room in his apartment for a medium dog then :). If not :( then a small dog would be perfect companionship. They don't take up much room so a small dog would be perfect for an apartment. P.S. I would like to suggest getting a dog from a shelter, and if possible , getting one as a puppy. Puppies are easier to potty train.

You cannot tell anyone anything to 'make them want' anything. Either he wants a dog or he doesn't.

Based on your description, you should probably wait on getting a dog. Most Animal shelters won't let student's adopt dogs for a good reason.

A Dog is a serious commitment, similar t having a baby. Don't do it unless your life is stable and you are prepared to be responsible.

Reasons to get a dog include, companionship, protection, a way to allow someone (ie a child) to learn responsibility, and last of all, be able to share and express affection.

If you and yours cannot agree on a specific one, it might not be a good time right now to get one. Hold off for now but continue to discuss it.

I would not do this. Too many issues can arise. If you 2 break up, what if he drops the dog off at your front steps? How will you pay for vet care (shots, getting the dog fixed, emergencies and illness)? Dogs cost money.

You might want to wait till you and your boyfriend live together. I live with my boyfriend and his brother girlfriend. She has a dog and it pisses me off. I want a dog too my boyfriend knows this but I still dont have a dog. I dont think he wants one and doesnt want to get me one. At least your boyfriend is considering it.

i would suggest you to first be with your boyfriend ( like move into an appartment together) and have a back yard of your own so you know that it will be cared for and happy

you said he would not do all those bad things, but yet you feel like you need to prevent them? hold off on the dog. be sure of your boyfriends compassion first.
