Yes, if the child has been anywhere where others that have athlete's foot has been.
"Athlete's foot" is the name of a fungal infection in the skin. It is transmitted from locker room and bathroom floors, as well as in showers.
The other thing could be just dry feet, or an allergic reaction to the socks. My daughter can't wear socks that have any polyester in them. She has to wear 100 % cotton socks. It could be that simple as well (it took me going to the dr to find that all out).
Good luck!!

Athlete's foot is a fungus picked up off of floors on which someone with althete's foot has stepping with bare feet. So if you know anyone with athlete's foot (a husband or boyfriend), or your son has been walking on locker room floors, it is possible.

i get athlete's foot like all the time and I don't know why. Luckily, it's really easy to get rid of. Just go to the drug store and get the strongest antifungal creme they have. Lamisil is good. use that for a few days and it goes away.

yes because it is a fungal infection; you can get it at any age.. but it could also just be overly dry skin; definately have the pediatrician check it out....
