Hello, I want to be able to capture the sunrise on my dv camcorder but of course there isnt enough space on a regular tape to be able to do this. Is there a way of converting my camera to take time delayed footage every so often or are there special techniques i could apply. ideally, i want to be able to capture 4 hours of footage and condense that down to a 20 second speeded up clip.

thanks dudes.

Hey Tringstation,

The first site says you just speed up the film, but when I learned time lapse, you took the normal 28 frames per second just spred out over time, relative to the affect you are after.

Most cameras have settings that will change the speed from SP to EP (some even have SLP and ELP) . If this doesn't give you enough time, there is another way. If you have a still camera and video editing software, you can do it one of two ways. You can take a picture of what you want at the beginning of sunset, and another at the end. Or, you can take two at the beginning, but on the second one decrease the exposure, to give an underexposed image, by closing down the aperture or decreasing the time. You have to use a tripod so that the images are identical. Then you take these two images into your video editing software and dissolve from one to the other. You can even control the time of the dissolve.
