i have NEVER had anyone but myself dye my hair, and i've had no problems at all excpet the one time the lady gave me bad advice with bleach (but it was my own fault for listening to her cause i knew she was wrong).
some brands can be better then others, i always have problems with revlon brand hair dye, it fades really fast. i've been told to not use panten pro-v or head and shoulders as thsoe are the two worst shampos for colored hair (it will cause your color to fade faster). wear scrubby clothes and FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS IN THE BOX!!! thats all i do and i rarely have problems and no one even knows i dye my hair until my roots get really bad sometimes. if you mess it up you can always go to a hair person and they will gladly fix it for you :)

Dying your hair is a simple process and every commercial product has clear instructions and a help line if you are unclear or unhappy with the results. I have colored my hair by every possible means from Lemon bleaching for highlights, Chemical processes and even Henna. The most important thing is to use a good conditioning shampoo afterward to keep your hair strong. There are many different products to achieve many looks and yes you can do it yourself. If you only want to highlight just buy the appropriate product it even comes with the special tool you need to achieve professional results. Always do the patch and strand test and if you can, since this is your first time, only dye your hair during the call center hours so you can ask any questions or make any adjustment quickly. Have fun and don't let the naysayers prevent you trying a new look!

If you are only going for "highlites" then let a pro do it... the over the counter dying agents and destroy your hair. A pro can decide which level of developer would be safe to use on your hair type. Personally, I dye my own at home, have been for a long time. But, have found out that extreme lightening can destroy your hair to a non-repairable state and have stayed away from overly light colors.... GOOD LUCK!

I have regreted dying my hair ever since I did it 10 years ago. If you can do something else for a change, try that first. It's such an upkeep. You're always gonna be trying to get it to look perfect and IT WON'T.

I would find a good hair dresser because once you do it you have to wait for it to grow out. I would suggest trying a rinse first see if you like it dyed.

Its best to let a pro do it, just to be safe. it may be expensive, but its worth it if yu can keep from damaging your hair permanatly. get a consultaion at a salon to see whats best for you and to see if the hair is in healthy enough condition for coloring
