I really love the symbolic meaning behind both the koi and cherry blossoms. I wanted to get a koi/wave/cherry blossom tattoo but I realize that they've become quite common. Should I get it anyway since it does hold an importance in meaning to me? If not, any other ideas that represent strength/etc.? Thank you.

If you really like it, you should get it. Just because other people have it too doesn't mean your tattoo will look like theirs.

It has meaning to you, that's very important. Get it anyway.

do whatever makes you happy. i have a koi swimming up a waterfall with lotus flowers. it is different from most of the koi tattoos that i have seen and i always get positive feedback.
but on the same note, anything can represent strength to you. if i had to get something that represented strength... i think i would get a tree. it may sound silly but a tattoo of a big old oak tree with like one acorn at the bottom of it. trees are a symbol of strength to me.

absolutely get it. i just answered a similar question, i have
a butterfly tattoo on my back and i know there are plenty
of girls with butterfly tattoos. what is the likelihood that
you know someone or will come in contact with someone
with your exact tattoo in the same location and hold the same
meaning. my tattoos are for me.

I think you should go for it, because it has alot of meaning to you, regardless of it being overdone.Bring a picture of it to your tattoo artist and maybe you both could find ways to make it unique to you. :)
