Please don't post links to sites that are just aimed at making money. I have a serious problem and would be great if you could help me out. I am not interested in taking magical pills or buying as-seen-on-tv machines.

At 5"11, 180 pounds would be a good weight for you. Start with something easy--cut out soda from your diet. One 12 ounce can of soda has 150 calories, and if you're drinking thirstbusters all day long this could add up to a tidy sum. You will lose weight slowly and naturally by making one small change. It doesn't have to be soda--if you eat a candy bar every day, cut that out. If you drink coffee, stop doing that. You can find something I'm sure. If you add exercise, you'll lose weight even faster--like walking 30 minutes a day. Take the stairs instead of an elevator if this is an option for you.

Anywhere between 180 and 190 pounds would be a good weight. How to lose at least 40 pounds, it's called discipline. You are going to have to get tough on yourself. Deny any snacks or any second helping. You simply have to stop your food intake. Sure you could also exercise, but once you quit exercising after a couple of years, you are going to put the weight back on. Best bet is to look at your family members. See how much of your weight problem is genetics. If you conclude it's not genetics, then stop eating so much. Find other ways to calm your nerves. If it is genetics, nothing you can do about it. It's simply your fate to be heavy. Live with it and enjoy your family genetics. Nothing else you could do about it. Anatomy is destiny.

Join a gym. That's what it's there for.
Or run around your block. Play basketball. Get a dog to go on runs with you and play fetch at the park. Just getting out and keeping busy will help. Also, drink a slim fast for breakfast, eat low fat sandwich meat, lettuce, tomatoes, wheat bread and skim milk for lunch and grilled chicken and veggies for dinner. A coworker did that and lost a lot of weight. Good luck

There are no magic pills. Obviously, you need to eat less and exercise more. It's just that simple. Only you can motivate you. You need to lose about 65 lbs. Just do it slowly. About 2-3 pounds a week.
