i want to invest in some defragmentation software for my pc but im not sure which one to get from the following:
1) diskeeper 2007
2) perfect disk 8.5
3) O and O
Which one is the best and why. I have been told that diskeeper requires more than one defrag to finish the process.

If you want to think outside the "Microsoft box", you could use one of the 700+ OSes that do NOT fragment files on the drives!

http://pclinuxos.com

Also, it runs processes upto 50X faster, in a true concurrent multi-tasking, multi-processing environment, with 20 desktops, upto 200 open windows, in each, entirely virus free.

That all means that you can safely leave the "Microsoft box"!

Then, experiment with some more: http://livecdlist.com has 310 Live CDroms.

defrag just re-organizes the sectors on a hard drive so info is more compact so the processor can find it easier.

basic defrag from Windows is plenty good enough. if you have been told or lead to believe its not good enough....then consider yourself a sucker for marketing.

defrag does not clean up virus, spyware, spam ware, issues, etc. it only organizes the sectors, this has no real impact on your computer besides making the processor not work so hard. if you download and upload alot of items, defrag a few times a year otherwise normally once a year is good enough.

I would definitely stick with the one Microsoft provides with Windows.
If you're having performance issues I'd look into Ad Aware and Spybot software to remove those threats and Norton anti-virus for viruses.

Are you not using windows--- the one microsoft provides works pretty well as long as you just let it sit and not do anything on your computer while it is defraging.
