When I say we I mean western countries. Israel has not had a major terrorist attack as the us has. There have been lots of small ones but they keep the muslims at bay.

Israel prickles like a hedgehog, and has a military reputation for taking out threats before they can take out Israel. Who can blame them after the holocaust?
Israel has fought its guts out since its creation, and there is no point blaming the USA for arming them - Israel fought off the Arabs in 1948 with tin-can armoured cars that they built themselves. They now can build any weapon they wish with their own resources. The Soltam L33 SPG, Merkava 4 tank, the Python and Shafrir missiles are world leaders, not to mention the humble but potent Uzi. Uzi does it!
Any nation will benefit from the Israeli approach. Arm yourselves to the extent that anyone interfering with your State will gat a bloody nose. It makes negotiation easier.
Which is why Iran should not be censured if that nation wishes to build nuclear weapons. Israel has them, the UK, France, USA etc has them. There must not be one rule for some states, and another rule for other nations.
Unless, of course, if you have enough weapons to destroy the Earth.

You call the Hezbollah-Israeli war a small one? Israel is more a military compound than a country. They have to build a fence/wall around themselves like a Medieval castle. They live in a constant state of fear because the terrorists are always coming up with new ways to attack them. Whether it's Saddam's scud missiles w/ possible WMDs or Iran nuclear weapons program. There may not be a lot of suicide attacks anymore but Israel is always at the highest alert on the terror scale and that is no way to live a life. (in my opinion).

In England, we had our bombings last year, and the thing we learnt from it is a sense of proportion. What happened was horrific, but countries in the middle east get that every day.
The US had one attack, and it was 6 years ago... and you're all still running scared that you're going to blow up in a pizza parlour one day. The place to be terrified is the middle east, in Israel they are still under constant bombardment, to the extent that bombs are launched into homes and constantly claiming lives, it outnumbers American deaths by an astronomical amount, and I think it's about time the US realized that you are not the victims here.
