A friend was injured in a smash on the motorway. The police attended and knew she had hit her head during the impact but did not offer to call an ambulance but left her to make her own way home, with the pick-up truck that came to recover her car. She then had to make her own way to A&E for treatment for head and rib injuries, which luckily were not serious. Is this normal police response? I always understood that an ambulance was called when someone was injured in a road accident. The police who attended also left without giving their names or contact details.

Based upon the terms, ie. "motorway", I'm assuming this did not occur in the USA. However, despite WHAT country the police should have asked if the occupants of any vehicle involved in an accident desired medical assistance.

Often times victims refuse medical assistance and only at that time will we not request an ambulance response.

You should be able to contact the agency that was responsible for the area of which this accident occurred. The will have a "log" or report on hand to indicate the details of the police response.

Best wishes!

The very first thing the police would ask is if anyone was injured, if there were no responses then the accident investigation continues. If someone claimed an injury the officer would have to determine the extent of the injury and ask or determine if an ambulance was needed.

The officers name and shield # would be in the accident report which would be available to the participants of the accident.

Don't believe everything friends tell you.

Answering from experience as a cop, the officers should have immediatly asked if anybody needed an amublance. If medical attention was refused, then nobody would be called, but if medical attention was requested, and no attention was given, then that Dpt. could be looking at a law suit. It is good that no serious injuries incurred, but just remember this for the future. If you are injured, ask for medical attention. They can't refuse you.

Did she leave the scene with the tow truck and go to hospital,
sometimes they get there before the ambulance.......................

Why did you not ask for an ambulance to be called, or ask for
the officers who came to the scenes names, I suppose they
saw you walk away and thought you would get to the hospital
with the tow truck driver..............................................................

Ask for names, but if you were not seriously injured enough to
warrant an ambulance to be called you could have asked for
a lift to the hospital instead..........................................................

If you need some assistance you ask.........................................
