Parthenogenesis does not support our view of the virgin birth because human males have XY chromosomes, which cannot be derived from the female XX compliment.

EDIT: sorry, Alyosha! It couldn't be a spontanous mutation, since there are genes only found in the Y chromosome that are completely missing from the X. So it wouldn't be one mutation, it would be several mutations, PLUS the spontaneous appearence of a gene that causes testicular development. This seems unlikely, but I'll give you credit for creativity.

Actually Mary got pregnant after a wonderfull encounter with Gabriel, a young, cute and powerfull teenager.
Joseph was a good guy who loved his young wife dearly so he decided to raise the kid as his own.
No parthenogenesis or miracle involved.

As a theologian, I think this is THE BEST critical question reguarding the virgin birth. I love it! I think you've called it like it is. Don't you wish they could see things this clearly?
