From the time I brought her home, she continuously has had bouts of diarrhea or mucous with blood, or vomiting. The vet has placed her on antibiotics three times. She even continued to be sick during and after the meds. I've changed her puppy food from Eukanuba to Royal Canin to Nutro. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Get a new vet. any sign of blood is very bad, and a blood test is necessary to try and pinpoint the problem. But it's clearly not bacterial infection. Your vet is obviously treating the wrong thing.

Did your vet test a stool sample? Those symptoms sound like intestinal parasites, most likely Coccidia which is very contagious.

Coccidiosis is the disease caused by coccidian infection. Coccidiosis is a parasitic disease of the intestinal tract of animals, caused by coccidian protozoa. The disease spreads from one animal to another by contact with infected feces, or ingestion of infected tissue. Diarrhea, which may become bloody in severe cases, is the primary symptom. Most animals infected with coccidia are asymptomatic; however, young or immuno-compromised animals may suffer severe symptoms, including death.

Young puppies are frequently infected with coccidia and often develop active Coccidiosis -- even puppies obtained from diligent professional breeders. Infected puppies almost always have received the parasite from their mother's feces. Typically, healthy adult animals shedding the parasite's oocysts in their feces will be asymptomatic due to their developed immune systems. However, undeveloped immune systems make puppies more susceptible. Further, stressors such as new owners, travel, weather changes, and unsanitary conditions are believed to activate infections in susceptible animals.

The primary sign of an animal suffering with coccidiosis is diarrhea. The diarrhea may be mild to severe depending on the level of infection. Blood and mucous may be present, especially in advanced cases. Severely affected animals may also vomit, lose their appetite, become dehydrated, and in some instances, die from the disease.

Treatment is simple and inexpensive. Please see another vet or have your vet check for this.

I would seek a second opinion! If the vet has not cleared it up by now then you might do well to take her somewhere else. My Yorkie has had intestinal problems also. However, i got him at the age of 4 yrs. Turned out he had bacterial infection. Seek another vet's opinion.

Does it eat grasses while outside? Or, has it eaten anything odd, house plants, etc? Keep a tight watch on her inside/outside and see if she's eating anything she shouldn't. Our dog (lab-mix) eats everything including dirt and he occasionally gets sick from eating grass.
