The commonalities and similarities between different religions, not just in creed, but in doctrine as well.

Well a good one would be a discussion about the compatibility of devout Muslims in Western society. Islam is largely misunderstood because of current situations abroad. This would generate a LOT of discussion and it is an important topic.

Religions are coined to bring people together around common answers to spiritual questions.
What spiritual questions bring people together?
Questions like, why do we suffer and die?
Why do weird things happen?
How should I behave in difficult or confusing situations?
How can I make myself do the right things, when my guts want to do what my heart and head know is wrong?
etc.
The What Should I Do Retard did us all a service, highlighted the nature of these common questions by reducing them to the absurd. However, it is not absurd to ask them, and our answers to them need not be absurd.

One I always liked is this:
What if x religion turns out to be the real, true religion?!
x = christianity, judiasm, islam, buddhism, hinduism, shintoism, atheism, etc.
Each person would write down what thier religious persuasion is, and what it would mean if the different religions (or lack thereof) turn out to be the right answer.

One thing that might be worth discussing is the different perceptions of God. Christians and Pagans see God(s) as completely different in nature.

I am currently looking into tax exemption status for religious organizations and at the implications of politic activities conducted by religious organizations, so those two might be great topics.

I am a Christian, I believe in the theory of evolution and the the big bang. If somebody does not think I am a true Christian because of it, I really do not care as both God and Myself know know the truth.
