im expecting my first baby, me and my partner are working full time, how to tax credits work and what, if any, do i get? Also if i decided not to come back to work straight away will i be intitled to any benifits? as we cant live on my partners wage alone but i dont want to pay someone else to bring up my baby.

If you decide to stay home full time and your partner continues wroking then you will get:
1. Child benefit 17.50 per week.
2. Child tax credits 43.00 per week
3. child tax credit top up for children under one: 11.00 a week approx
4. Working tax credits 73.00 per week,
This is what I get anyway, if your partner has a particularly high paid job then you will get less or no benefit.

you could try applying for child tax credit when baby is here and also your partner could apply for working tax credit thats the only two benefits i know of. Also try phoning the benefits agency they would be able to help you hope this is of some help

Emma I totally understand about how you feel as I am in the same situation at the moment although my daughter is 20 weeks old. You should be able to get Child benefit and possibly housing benefit and Council Tax rebate as well as working tax credit.
