I've heard that vitamins in artifical form (pills, etc.) can't digest real well without the fruit. So, what's the point in taking them. Would it be better to just eat fresh fruit?

I just read an article on MSNBC last night that should help you out:

Taking a daily vitamin may actually hurt you more than help you, and it is ALWAYS better to get the vitamins and minerals from food sources such as fruit, vegetables, meat and grains.

That being said, I do take a daily multivitamin as insurance since I probably don't eat healthy enough every day. But I always take it with food and water. Some vitamins are fat soluble and some are water soluble, so you need to have fat and water in your stomach if the vitamins are going to make it out of there and go do their work in your body.

If you do decide on taking a multivitamin, the MSNBC article should point you in the right direction for choosing a safe vitamin.

There is definitely some truth in it. You may want to really talk to a nutritionist in order to determine what's better for you to eat. But taking straight vitamins may not do the justice. You need to eat fruit for fiber and other important benefits.
