I told some one i'd babysit. They canceled their daycare, and assistance pay for day care. This morning something came up and now I can't babysit. I feel totally horrible. I hate doing this to people. How can I have her understand without hating me?

The truth is always a good alternative. Tell her your dilemma and see if it is possible to bring baby with you to wherever you must go, unless it is a rock concert or other event that is not baby-friendly.

You can't??? Or you got an offer for something you'd rather do??? There is a big difference. You made a commitment to babysit. If you cancel, I sure hope it's a valid excuse.

I would let her know ASAP so she can find other plans.. To do it with out her being upset i really don't know because if someone said they were going to baby sit for me and then canceled at last min would get frustrating... Just Be up front and tell the truth...

Explain to her that something came up in the morning and that you can't make it in the morning, but you can be there after your appointment. You don't have to explain what happened or what's going on. If she's human, I'm sure she will understand.

Unless you are just going to do something fun with friends I am sure if you explain what came up they will be understanding. Let them know ASAP so they can try to get someone to fill in. If one one your friends called and want you to do something, no matter how fun it will be, you need to say sorry to the friends and honor your commitment. We are only as good as our word.

Can you line up a replacement so the parents don't have to? That would go a long way as to smoothing things over!

Tell the truth and spread the word that she needs a sitter. If you can line up a responsible candidate - it might really help her out!

If whatever came up is not an emergency, you have no excuse to break your promise.
