German Shepherd/Chow/Collie mixture. Also good part of other things too. Belgian tevuren is a rare breed, especially in the states. They are imported from overseas and no good breeder would let there Tevuren run loose to breed the neighborhood strays. Not saying it cant happen but saying the odds of it being a Turvy are slim to none. Chow Chow is mostly in his face features, Collie or herding dog in body and shepherd in colors, and size. After 9+ years of seeing strays with no information it gets a bit easier to pick out traits in a mixed breed dog.

Hi Rowan!
Poor little guy!
You definitely have German Shepard running in your family, but with your fluffy fur, triangle ears, and being a little on the short side for German Shepard, I would guess you might have a little bit of Collie in you. ( See your have similarities to Shelby here:
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7421954 )
If you want to know if you have a docked tail or a natural one, docked are usually blunt, and natural tails are usually tapered. If it has been docked you should be able to see a little scar at the tip under the hair where there isn't any hair growing.
Congratulations on your new home!!

He's a beautiful dog! As I noted in my other answer, I have a dog that looks a LOT like Rowan, except mine has *slightly* longer and shaggier hair. This past summer, we adopted her from a local pound (after my older dog died). Although, of course, we'll never know for sure, we presume that she is probably a German Shepherd/Collie mix -- with maybe a bit of Golden Retriever thrown in. :) In any case, whatever the mix, she's a wonderful dog, with a lovely disposition. Happy, friendly, gentle, smart as a tack and eager to please.

When we got Tallulah (in August), it was clear that she hadn't had much training; however, although she still has some minor leash issues that we need to work on, she learned everything VERY quickly; she even sort of protects my other dog who is blind. In addition to the dogs that I've owned, I used to foster dogs waiting to be adopted. Of all the dogs I've dealt with, T. has definitely been the *easiest* to train. She's practically a "perfect dog"! :) I hope that Rowan, whatever his mix may be, brings you as much joy as our T. has already brought us. I'm sure that he will.

I have seen plush coat and long coat shepherds that look just like your dog. His tail did not look docked in the picture. Improperly bred shepherds sometime have short tails. Maybe it could be shepherd and border collie maybe rough collie or not a mixed at all.

He for sure is part German Shephard. He can also be part Lab/Golden Retriever because he has their muzzle (nose, mouth area). Maybe a little chow. If he has no tail, he could also have some Australian Shephard. Those dogs have really short tails.

Just a guess, but I agree with the person that said German Shepard/Chow Chow, or something very similar to a Chow.

Does he have a strong willed, independent attitude? If so, he's a chow! :)

I'd say a GSD/Chow mix. He looks like a shepherd with a rounder face!

Whatever you decide, he's a cutie! I'm sure he'll be gorgeous after he's back to a healthy weight!

He definately has some German Shepherd in him, actually, well, most of him, though, his ears seem a bit smaller for a shepherd.
