Firstly, don't take Hoodia or any metabolizers. Regardless of what active agent they use, including caffeine, they stress the heart and promote short term, not long-term, weight loss.
Secondly, beside the obvious (weights every other day and 40+ minutes aerobic exercise every other day and "good diet"), there are some tricks. Note that the aerobic exercise, for someone your age, should be done at 155+ beats per minute heart rate...and free weights are better than weight machines as free weights increase coordination and tone more evenly.

You need to give your body 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protien (oddly enough, many Target stores are smart enough to list this in their health/nutrition bar section)

-------------Detailed Answer-----------------------------------------
When doing the 40%/30%/30% diet the goal is to keep your calorie intake to 1500 or under without feeling "empty" in terms of nutrients (most Americans are around the 2500-3500 range, eating more food but with less nutrients to get "full").
You can feel healthy and full on a low-calorie diet by eating a good combination of all natural foods: beans, fruits, and vegetables for carbs (no bread/"wheat"/rice/potato products!), beans and grilled/broiled fish or grilled/broiled chicken for protien , and nuts and olive oil for fat. On top of this take about 2 high concentration fish-oil pills for Omega-3 fats.

This combination of foods will simply give you more energy out of less calories, encourage your body to build muscle rather than fat, and strengthen your cardio system making workouts faster and easier.

It will also strengthen your metabolism naturally and keep it that way in the long-run, unlike pills and "crash-diets" where you have to keep on eating ridiculously low amounts and/or taking pills to keep the weight off.

Do a good job at this (the strict diet and exercise guidelines) and you should be fit as a soldier within about 4 months...and able to keep toned and lean easily.

Hope this helps....

If he started dating you in the first place im sure he likes you the way you are. Why would you want to change for someone else? But i do understand. Stay active. -For example 30 minutes to an hour of just dancing your heart away to some music will help you tone up. If you do some crazy moves who knows what you'll be working. [This worked better for me than going and running out in the heat. You still work up a sweat but you don't risk a heat stroke] -Also sit ups and crunches. Nobody likes to do them but they do the trick. - Cut back on coffee, sodas, and energy drinks. -When you get hungry try eating some fruits in stead of a big meal. you still need to eat at least three times a day just don't eat too much. -Smaller portions is key *good luck =]
