I am having my wisdom teeth out and I am just wondering what the pain is like after and what the anaesthetic feels like after you have had them out. Also, how long were you laid up for etc etc. Thank you!

You didn't say where you are having them removed, dental surgery or hospital. I too had a wisdom tooth removed and it was done at the dental surgery as my dentist is a dental surgeon, apparently further trained than your basic dentist. Before having it removed I had imagined this big operation and blood everywhere, mind you I spose everyone differs but it was a very simple process of injections, in the mouth of course and a matter of her twidling with a screw driver object and pulling it out with ease. I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was. I went straight home and I slept the anesthetic off. I felt quite fragile for about a week and the key is to resist sticking yer tongue in the hole. I must admit the area did bleed but she had filled the hole with a dressing which soaked up the blood. The area remained quite sensitive for about a week or so but nothing severe. You may have to return to have the dressing changed and have your gums checked but please don't get anxious about it as it's no big deal. Think positively as you get it done and afterwards and you'll be fine. Since losing a wisdom tooth, I don't appear to have lost any of my wisdom either lol, so no need to worry about that either. Good Luck!

I had two out at once under local anaesthetic. It's not a particularly pleasant procedure but it doesn't really hurt while it's being done.

It feels a bit weird afterwards and can throb a little bit but just make sure u get 400mg ibuprofen and that should see off any pain. I was back at work the next day and had forgotten all about it by the following week!

Just be careful not to lick at the holes with your tongue cos that can start it bleeding again - you need to let it scab over (ew!) and be careful with toothbrushes as well. You'll be fine! x

I had all four of mine out in october, once he put the IV in my arm, I dont even remember closing my eyes, I was out FAST! the surgery itself is really only about 30 minutes or so, I was at the office at 745 am and home by 9 am. you are numb after and wont be able to talk, so when i got home i napped all day, towards the end of the afternoon the anaesthetic was wearing off, i took a percocet but it was too much for me, i threw up, so for the next three days i took advil and that worked fine, I wasnt able to open my mouth all the way to brush my teeth so i felt pretty disgusting. i had the operation on a thursday and i started to feel better on sunday and was back to work on monday, but for two weeks after that i was still slightly sore. all in all once its all over you look back and say thank god!

My boyfriend *Just* like last week had his out, he was feeling pretty good on the anestesia, since he aparently swore to the doctor telling him he did a good f'in job haha. But once it wears off you start getting pain, your tounge might feel really huge and you'll probably be in bed depending on the doctor from 2-5 or 6 days. I'd gets lots of juice, ice pops, jello, pudding, those sorts of things before the procedure but don't eat soup~! Your incisions could come out and you'll end up with a blood clot. You head might hurt during the end of this procedure but after about a month you won't even remember what happened. Good Luck~!

When i had mine out .Although it wasn.t drastic it was a bit painful .You don't feel much pain with anaesthetic but you will be a bit sore later .You should be OK Once the anaesthetic wheres of you may have to drink with a straw Until the numbness goes Take care.

The anasthetic is Great! and after it wears out you have access to pain pills for a while. I was able to go out dancing that same night (I had the surgery early in the day). It takes a few weeks to feel totally normal but it really is not anything to be scared of today wiwth the technology they have.

I had 2 out in one go. It doesnt hurt at all whilst they are doing it. The anaesthetic takes a few hours to wear off. Once it has take painkillers regularly. DO NOT SMOKE, i did and i got them infected really badly. Just be carefull and youll be fine. Dont listen to people who say its horrible coz its not bad at all. A lot better now they are out!

pain... depending on if they get pulled out or cut out can be different.
Pain subsided after a week... getting less and less each day.
I was given oxycodone for pain.
I highly recommend eating something when taking this. (maybe puddling or something easy to eat w/o chewing)
Watch out and ask about the posibility of a dry socket...
When the hole left by the tooth does not fill in right way after the healing starts. this can be problimatic with food debris and such.

I had all four out at once. I don't want to lie so I have to tell you it was HELL. I was swollen like a hamster around my face. I jaw was really painful because they had to dislocate it. I couldn't eat for 5 days. Eventually I was able to eat instant puddings. I don't want to scare you but that was my experience. I do know other people who were fine by the next day tho'. I guess it's different for everyone. Good luck !!!
