your best bet is to take a Metrolink train from any of San Gabriel valley stops (Clairemont, Pomona, Covina, Baldwin Park,
El Monte
the metrolink train will probably arrive on tracks 3 though 7
then you walk to track 1 or 2 and then take the gold line for 1
stop to Chinatown
the nice thing is that your metrolink ticket is accepted as fare
payment on the gold line

or you could also take foothiil transit 187 from Clariemount to the
the gold line station,

The Gold Line has a stop it is the second to the last stop if you are headed into LA but if you are heading out from LA it the first stop. Once you exit it you will kinda be in the middle of Chinatown. But there is no dirrect route if you are taking the Metro Rail if you are heading in from San Gabriel other than taking the bus to the gold or maybe the Metro Link.?
