try to keep him in the crate for longer hrs.
That's how I'm training my puppy and he is 3 months old too.
The crate is his home so he's going to refuse to potty in there.
i usually sleep with my puppy but one night I let him in his crate and next morning I was so surprised to see that he hasn't gone potty in there. I immediately took him outside and so much came out! I was so proud of him. I still let him sleep wtih me but during the day I leave him in the crate for 2-3 hrs then take him outside.
I make the crate very comfortable for him with pillows and blankets. I also give him his treats in there and leave his food and water in there as well. This way he will NOT potty in there and wait until his outside the crate. So make sure you take him outside immediately after you take him out of the crate.
Good luck

well Oliver is lucky that he has you as an owner, taking him out every hour, You should´t have to take him out every hour. try and move the news paper bit by bit towards the door , try and keep a count on how many time´s he goes to the toilet he is still young and you have time to train him well if possible try getting him out early in the morning to do is toilet then maybe wait for a few hour´s then take him out you have to get him into a routine , one that suits your need´s dog´s as they get older can hold there wee for up to 14 hour´s not that I recommend that, but little by little you will get him out at the right time, & when Oliver dose is toilet outside make sure you have a small treat for him & good boy lots of attention , then he know´s he has been good . if you don´t tell him off for having is little accident´s then he think´s it´s right to do is toilet where ever he like´s a firm NO and walk away , don´t worry he knows you still love him . about the dog food not sure , I think Chum is a good dog food , But if this is a worry to you why not ask your vet what he/she think´s enjoy your dog

I have two cavaliers, Dennis is brown and white and Levi is tri colour, they are both nearly nine years old(beautiful dogs with lovely personalities!)They both have heart murmurs now but are generally fit and well and keep me busy! I would think that your oliver should be ok by about 9 months but all dogs are different, so why not leave paper by the door for as long as he uses it? When hes gone a few nights without "using" the paper, try taking it away(bit like when you take a baby out of nappies)I feed mine on bakers complete coz that was what i had recommended to me when i had them and this seems to suit them.Dont know about choice pet food, but you could give it a try to see if it suits him anyway.Hope this helps! Good luck with the paper training!

Try to taper off from taking him out every hour, so you can get him into a routine. Always take him out as soon as he wakes up, or after he eats. If he seems to be sniffing around for a spot, or sniffing around a door, take him out.

Any time the puppy urinates inside, clean it up with a cloth, and take that cloth with you every time you take him outside to go. Place that cloth on the ground in the area you're trying to teach the puppy to go in. It will be touch and go for the first 3 months or so, and expect accidents, but he'll eventually learn.

Dogs do not like to live in the same spot that they use as a bathroom ...so while placing paper in his crate for potty purposes may seem like the right thing to do, it's really more of punishment to him and is probably really confusing him. Stick with a routine and be consistent, and he'll eventually hold it all through the night...and wait while you find your slippers and the leash!

Good luck :)

I have a cocker spaniel and it took me 6 months to get things right.

if your taking him out every hour now and its working I would push the time back..

Example

10:00pm - out
12:00 midnight - out
2:00am - out
4:am out
6:am out
for a week

Next week
10:00pm - out
1:am out
3:00am out
5:00am out

next week
10:00pm - out
1:30 - 2:00am out
4:00am out

Keep pushing tha time back and eliminating some of the times... He'll get it.

Take your dog for a walk as often as possible and praise it for doin its biz outdoors. Remember to give the dog a strong verbal repremand for doing its biz indoors, and even take it to see the offending poop/piss during the repremand.

Dont cage your dog, it will go mad and angry!

I think at 8 weeks he can hold his bladder for 3 hours and then it goes up an hour every month.

if you want to train him in the house buy a mat that you put boots on and put some newspaper over it and show him you want him to go on that but don't put it in his cage as he has to sleep their.
