NICAM means Near Instananious Companded Audio Multiplexing.
Don't let some oik in Currys Digital (ex Dixons) confuse you by saying you have a choice. You haven't. It's a complex subject.

NICAM is the system used by terrestrial analogue televsion broadcasters to deliver sterephonc sound to domestic televsions sets. Therefore, as far as the user is concerned, they're the same.
Freeview and satellite transmissions use a different system to deliver stereo sound to your telly, but the digital set-top boxes sort it out for you.

VHF (FM) radio broadcasts use yet another system to transmit their stereo sound to your wireless receiver.

They alll sound very much the same by the time it's got to your ears so sit back and enjoy.

Nicam is stereo broadcast.
In TV, there's Nicam Stereo or AV stereo or even mono.
The Nicam stereo TV is more expensive but it can receive a Nicam broadcast while the AV stereo TV can only play stereo sound in video mode for broadcast it will be mono.
