Microsoft Word 2007 says it will "format your reference automatically by selecting a predefined style guide, including APA"...do older versions do this also?

No but there are Add-ins you can buy to do so. Reference Point has an APA formatter for about $25.

No they don't.

Also note that APA style is VERY different from MLA.
