Is a common expression, used rhetorically to indicate that a particular situation could be a cause for optimism (half full), pessimism (half empty), realism ("that depends on whether you are pouring or drinking"), or as a general litmus test to simply determine if an individual is an optimist or a pessimist. The purpose of the question is to demonstrate that the situation may be seen in different ways depending on one's point of view and that there may be opportunity in the situation as well as trouble. An alternative response is normally delivered ironically; "the glass is twice the size it needs to be" - with the implication being that even in such matters things are rarely so clearly definable.

It all depends whether you are a pessimist or an optimist.To a pessimist,it is half empty,but, to an optimist,it is half full. Which ever one of these,the glass needs to be refilled.

If you tilt it a little it is just over half full. We are so blessed as a whole country and don't even know it. Remember how we felt after 9/11 people.

Half-Full now! Half-Full forever! (Somebody needs to tell that to 75% of Michigan Wolverines football fans-what we call the "Michigan Mafia." I'm getting sick of hearing how bad the 2006 season was!)

It all depends on perspective. Hopeful=half full.-achievement.
Hopeless=half empty-loss.
Or, who cares as long as it's contents are gonna get me buzzed...
Down it!,Down it!, Down it!...
