I got a Sony Cyber Shot DSC-500,a few months ago,and so far I can't complain.I basically use it for pictures of the kids, family outings, and when out w/ friends. The pictures come out great,it cost around 150 dollars just about anywhere(Walmart,Best Buy).I don't know if your looking for something a little more high tech but this is great for casual snap shots!

If you love photography and are disappointed with point and shoot cameras, it sounds like it's time to move up to a DSLR. More money, yes, but better pictures, even if you just use the automatic or program settings.
Of course, Canon and Nikon have the upper consumer range cornered, but Sony, Pentax and Olympus all have DSLR's that are cheaper, but still not too bad.

Read the reviews on Sony DSC-S600. Website dpreview.com
At about $150 it seems to be a very good entry level camera. If you can find it you'll probably be satisfied. At $150 the outlay isn't much nowadays. Don't forget the memory stick you must buy.

The brands I prefer are Ricoh, Pentax,Yashica,Kodak,Nikon!!! I have 25 cameras and i use them all. they all take great pictures!!! I prefer the single lens reflex cameras. I do have various Zoom cameras as well!!! I even have some older cameras manufactured in the early 40's!!!! I also use Polaroid instant cameras!!!

SLR cameras are still the best particularly for capturing sights, objects in motion and can be zoomed for better angles.
