My last pregnancy ended in miscarriage, and the ultrasound technician talked about it with me when nothing showed up on the scan. I'm pregnant again, almost 8 weeks, and I'm going for a viablity ultrasound tomorrow. I really want to know if anything is there, and if it's growing the way it should. I'm worried that the technician won't say anything and I'll have to wait till a doctor looks at the results. Does anyone know if they usually share things with you during this appt, like show you the little bean, and let you see/hear the heartbeat? I'm in Canada/Ontario, so it may be different in the U.S. Does anyone know? Please help! Thank you!

If everything looks good... the technician will probably say something like that. You will probably be able to read the technicians body language, and be able to determine for yourself.
If you let the technician know about your last pregnancy, maybe she'll make a little extra effort to put you mind at ease about this one.

Ultrasound technicians wont tell you anything they cant The one that said something before was not supossed to. They can usually say things " like heres the head" and stuff like that they will usally let you listen to the heartbeat and have a picture if they wont give you a picture or let you hear the heartbeat something may be wrong. I have had two pregnacys that had bad results the first one was the worst I actully had whats called a molder prgnancy its like a cancer almost were your placenta is huge but your baby dont grow the second was a miscarrige. now I have twin girls. Because I have had all three of these experences Ive had so many ultrasounds (one every month then when I had to stay in the hospital before my twins were born once everyday) You can usually tell by there facial expressions as well. Good luck and I know were your coming from.
P.S. if you get to impatent waiting for your doc to go over your test with you just call up and tell the doctor your scared and you really want to know. If something is wrong you will get in there fast anyways

An ultrasound technician is not supposed to give you the results. I am in Canad also. If there is a problem ( I had one with my first) the hospital Dr came in to tell me the bad news. With my second one I went to a different hospital and they showed me the heartbeat. They had a second screen set up for the patient to watch, and at 6 weeks I could see a little blip that was the heart. Usually if everything is ok they will show you.

The tech that does the ultrasound really aren't suppose to give you any information about your pregnancy becasue they aren't dr's. At 8 weeks you should be able to see what looks like a peanut and you should be able to hear the heart beat, as long as they do an internal u/s.
congratulations on the pregnancy and I hope that everything is ok with this little one

Ultrasound technicians are NOT trained to interpret the scans. They are only trained to do the scan and take the pictures. I am SHOCKED that the last one said something to you. What if he/she would have been wrong... how awful that would have been too. They will probably show you your little one and if they have the right instruments, you can hear the heartbeat as well. I only heard the heartbeats with my ob/gyn.
Good luck on this pregnancy!

i actually just finished an ultrasound course and were actually not suppose to discuss these issues with any patients for legal purposes but if you go to a ultrasound school you are more likely to find out more than at an office....

I'm surprised that your first u/s tech. told you anything at the first u/s. Normally they aren't supposed to weigh in on what they see. The tech should explain to you what is on the screen, but other than that, probably won't tell you much else. You should be able to see the heart beating and the tech might have microphone ability so you can hear it, but maybe not at 8 weeks.

My doctor did my first ultrasound, but that was when I found out I was having twins. I also got to hear their heartbeats!
