A priest is the sacramental presence of Christ. When we confess to a priest we are confessing to God.

Does a priest represent God. Yes, but I think we all should if we practice what we say we believe. When the Irish came up with the idea of confession back in say the 13th Century, the leading Church at the time, the Spaniards, considered it a heresy. I don't know what concessions were made at the time, but confession won out. A connection was made to the Bible, but Jesus did not institute the sacrament like we were taught. Many priest abuse it or punish severely rather than welcome the penitent back and guide them. I'm a Catholic and I don't go for the Sacrament of Reconciliation as it is officially called. I don't think it's necessary to be reconciled with God or to receive Communion, either.

I don't think priests represents God himself, if they did they wouldn't go around molesting children. Only God can forgive our sins but because the priests are considered a to be a higher figure/authority who represents the church we're expected to confess to them in hope that God himself will forgive us, not the priests.

No. While I believe most priest are good men with good intentions. The bible clearly teaches that the Lord Jesus Christ himself is the mediator of the new covenant and through his work at the cross we now have access to God the Father. Why would I go through another man, when I can go directly to God with boldness because of Christ.

You may as well ask forgiveness of a piece of dust. It will never work. The priest is part of a business with a good plan for stripping you of your wealth. It isn't that interested in providing you with absolution. It says it is but it really can't do that and it knows it. If absolution is offered, get proof. Accept no certificates from the priest though because you can't take them with you. Fine kettle of fish Olly.

The idea is based on the idea that God forgives sin. I try not to make judgemenst on people's religious approach. It's where your heart is, not the mechanics of a religion.

No they have come to represent pedophiles to most of the world.

The idea that these people have the moral authority to decide that any one is a sinner is laughable.

They are part and parcel of a corrupt system that induces guilt and spreads lies about the unconditional nature of Gods love for us.

Yes. The priests operate under persona christi, latin for "in the person of Christ". This means they are functioning under the authority of the Church through Jesus, also sharing in the priesthood of Jesus, which is how they have the authority to forgive sin.

It is absolutely nonsense, no human has the authorities to forgive
sins on behalf of the Almighty. Only God has the right, just simply
because God had created us.
