I am wracked by nervous energy and anxiousness. I have heard people smoke to 'calm their nerves' would chewing this gum work for me if I don't want to smoke?

Nicorette has a lot of nicotine in it, even at its lightest... I would think that is a bad idea because if your body hasn't had nicotine in it before and you're introducing a large amount, it can make you feel sick, and the calming effect of it wears off eventually. There is a pretty good chance that you could develop a habit from the nicotine.

I would consider other alternatives.... think of things that you do to calm yourself. When I'm stressed out, I go to the breakroom and shut the lights off and sit in silence for a few minutes. I breathe deeply and listen to the sounds of my breath and focus on that. That helps calm me. Everyone is different though... you will find what helps you calm down. Hopefully it isn't nicotine or cigarettes.

No although people do smoke to calm their nerves nicotine is a stimulant so chances are it would only make you feel worse. Try something with no addictive properties.

Yes it does but I think that is due to my 14 years of relating smoking to stress. Everybody experiences stress, why do I need a cigarette to destress whereas non-smokers do not.
