Ok out of everything you said about him the only possible thing i would focus on as a gift is the football thing find out what team he likes most and get him something like if he likes giants get him a giants hat or jerzee etc..

A jersey.. I buy hubby alot of those. It is one of his favorite presents to get.
Hubby also likes when I buy him movie passes. Here they come in a book of 12 with coupons for free popcorn and soda. That way you get to enjoy a night out with him too.
Scary except for the fighting part your boyfriend sounds exactly like my hubby

Get him a big cuddly stuffed teddy bear and buy his favorite cd or a dvd of football's greatest moments and present it to him with the bear holding it. Works every time.

try making a pillow with your picture on it. i got this idea from one of these questions here. you can make it yourself print out a picture of you and iron it on the pillow and send a card with it that saids "i'll always be there" now he might cut it down, but you can say something like, "not everything is about hatefulness some things are about love".

well it depends on how long you guys been going out. see me and my bf been a year so far and im going to get him,
