Southerners tend to flash the cash more than Northerners, their sterotype is usually louder and more confident too. Maybe because they earn more down South.
I think Northerners tend to be more laid back ,we don't have the pressure that Southerners do.
It's quite difficult as people move between the two, I don't think there's the divide there was before. So, there are less distinctions?
I don't think Northerners are quite as "image conscious" as the Southerners....everything tends to happen down South before it happens up North....
Customs are quite difficult as they're usualy by region than being split North/South.

Northern English tend to be more friendly than Southern English and not just obsessed with how much their house is worth, work, and holidays.

Southern accents are softer and more pleasing (I think!)
I guess the stereotypical ideal of northerners as simpler, harder, friendly, down to earth types in contrast to the sassy, quick, cunning cleverness of the southerners stem from the locality of the cities industries and agriculture throughout Britain's history. Interesting.

As an outsider... Northerners are much friendlier than southerners. Love the northern accents too.

Accent and dialect is the obvious difference.
Us northerners often refer to the southeners as southern softies as they can't stand the cold etc (not that I am stereo typing all southerners, I am just trying to answer the question!)
Northerners are often seen as friendlier - we will start up a conversation with anyone about anything!!
Northerners are tighter with their money as well.

Northerners are supposed to be poor and kind by stereotype.
Southeners are supposed to be rich and evil by stereotype.
And it doesn't help that I'm from Wigan and I talk like Vernon Kay without the deepness!

We live in the south, my hubby is from up north. They love him down here, his accent, his openness, he'll start a conversation with anyone about anything, speaks his mind. I love it when he immitates the southern accent. I think northeners are not afraid to say what they think and feel, at least you know where you stand with them, they are true to themselves and others around them. Oh, yes, and they love chips and gravy!!!

One that jumps immediately to mind is that I cannot sell a four bed detatched with land, in the North, and buy a whole street with the proceeds, in the South.
