Hey Clark, let us answer. I knew that. Same reason the Utah Jazz have their nickname. Salt Lake City is arguably the least "jazzy" city in the country. The franchise was original based in New Orleans.

If you look at maps of California you will see lots of dried lake beds. These were filled with water thousands of years ago but climate change coupled with tectonic movement has emptied them out. So there are lots of lakes in California they just don't bother to keep them filled.

Those dumb-dumb Californians were referring to the Pacific Ocean as a lake...can u believe that....they also elected Arnold as their governor...so i guess so....

(I am just kidding about Californians being dumb....i live there most of my life...13 years)

I think they just kept the name, such as the Dodgers, who were formerly the brooklyn Trolly Dodgers. Although, LA used to have trolly cars.
