The day of the big move drop him off to get groomed. When you pick him up all his stuff and you are in the new place and he is all pretty and fresh for the new place. He will be out of the way for the move and no one will have had to make sure he was okay he was getty dolled up.

Don't worry. Unless he is a nervous dog it shouldn't bother him.

When we moved, we moved our stuff first so that when he moved all the things he recognized was already here and sorted (well in the living room anyway the bedrooms are still a mess!) anyway, it meant it wasn't too big a change for him. He was a little anxious when we went to the bathroom (its downstairs) at first as he didn't recognize the door as the bathroom one but he soon got used to it and now knows, its the bathroom and we wont be in there long. He now prefers our new home as he has more room to run around and a sofa he can spread out on which we didn't have the room for before.

Basically i would say just move his stuff in first, he will sniff around and give him time he will soon get used to it. If possible take him to the new place before you move in. He will be fine.

What worked for me is that I was able to bring the dog to the new house before we moved. I would go paint and clean and take him along so he got used to the place. When we finally did move he did have a reaction but it only lasted about a week. Actually the first few days he just wanted to sit in my car and not come out but slowly he came around. So if at all possible take him a couple of times to the new place. Hope this helps.

JR is right, take the baby to get spiffied up, dogs get a feeling of self after this and can handle change a little better feeling good about themselves. If you have some dirty clothes put them in the floor of the part of the house he will spend most of his time, let "your smell" set there for a few hours b/4 bringing him in. If there was a place in your old home that his stuff was find a similar place in the new home and put his things. Lay a few of his toys on the floor starting at the door leading into the room where he will be most often, let him know him and his things are welcome, any further ? e mail me

Just make sure he has all his same stuff, in the same place (like, his bed still at the foot of yours, his food next to the same stuff, basket of toys still next to the TV) what ever it was next to in the old house. He will be a little freaked out at first It took my sisters dog a couple weeks before he was really comfortable.

Before you go, leave him with a friend or neighbor and get your house all set up, then introduce the dog. At first it might seem like a visit, but the dog will get used to it, don't worry. If he starts getting nervous and won't eat, has diarrhea, etc. Then you might need to take him to the vet for a dietary supplement or some tips on how to lessen his nervousness. Often, in my experience, dogs, like humans, tend to feel nauseated in new situations. Don't be afraid if your dog vomits. I could be wrong and he could care less about the transition, but, be prepared.

Take him out for a long, long walk in the surrounding area. Get him good and tired; I'm talking 1- 2 hour walk depending on breed. (bring water). Let him become accustomed to the neighborhood first. When you bring him home to his new "diggs" don't make a big issue about it (stay calm), just walk in. Let him roam and sniff the new surroundings. Let him find his food/dish/pillow,etc.. on his own. Let him out to the yard, smell the new bushes etc.... Getting him good tired will benefit you, he won't want to become hyper and will be willing to accept his new surroundings easier. Good luck let us know how it goes.

your dog will be fine, dont worry...the only why he will get anxious is if you leave him alone now....keep him close and love him..take him to the new place and let him take a tour, but dont go far stay with him while he does this...he will be fine.....

When you get to your new place, make sure you have all of his or her toys and bedding in place before you do anything else.
