The police ombudsman in N.Ireland has discovered that the police actively assisted Loyalist murderers, deliberately destroyed evidence and even paid one terrorist £79,000. No, the Police should not be above the laws they protect.

The problem is that sometimes the Police forces and other law enforcing departments in our countries have to stoop as low as the criminals they are trying to chase. Hmmm. That sounds wrong, doesn't it?

We see all the time that to catch a bigger fish, they have to let small fry wriggle. Look the other way when a small crime is committed by someone who will then lead them to a stopping a greater crime that affects more people.

Mankind has so many ways of performing misdeeds on its fellows. Because of this rules are formed by groups of people. The number of rules grows as these groups become larger societies and eventually the whole thing becomes a huge mess. We appoint Judges to keep this mess as untangled as possible and we appoint people to keep a check on Judges.

With all these layers of law enforcement, it is easy for certain acts to be overlooked by immediate superiors and that is how situations like the one you describe can take place.

Nobody should be above the law, but The Law has so many loop-holes that nobody has the time to look into them and remove them. even if tehy did, they would probably go to such extremes that nobody could move without breaking some law.

At least the Police ombudsman for N. Ireland has done his job correctly. When everybody else does theirs correctly too, people will have more time to stop crime instead of looking amongst themselves for wrongdoers.

The Law of the Land has been around for years, and it is mans way of dealing with it on one level. One for all and not all for one. Therefore it should be that the police are just men doing a job for the good of the land, therefore it should be that no man is above the law, and that it means it is for everyone to obey regardless of your job, creed, or faith.

Police should not be above the law. Laws need to be such that the laws themselves deter the crime. I better if you got your hand cutoff for robbing a gas station you would see a DRAMATIC decline in gas station robberies.

No. When I was in Belfast we worked 18 hour days, no overtime payments for soldiers. The RUC were racking up a fortune in overtime pay.

NO!! NO!! and NO!!! Neither should politicians. Rather than being above the law, they should be even MORE accountable to the law. They pledge to uphold it. If they betray that, the punishment should be even harsher.
