Any MAC computer whizzes that can help me!?!? PLEASE!?

I really need help with my MAC! I can't find the 10.3 update without buying it, which I really do not want to do since it is like $100. Is there any way that I can update my 10.2.8 to 10.3.9 ? I really need that version because I got a Video iPod for Christmas and I need to get the new iTunes but I can't get the new iTunes until I update to 10.3.9. I asked someone who I thought was good with MACs but she gave me an update that I knew wouldn't work, and sure enough, it didn't work! Can anyone please help me? I am so frustrated!

Oh and I have tried doing iTunes on my PC which is only about 1 year old and it will not work.

You might have to upgrade in increments.
You might not be able to go from 10.2.8 to 10.3.9 directly.

When I go to Apples site to search for the 10.3.9 download, it says you need to be at 10.3.8 before upgrading to 10.3.9.

So the $100 upgrade might be to go from 10.2 to 10.3.

First of all you should not have to buy an update for your OS for the iTunes to update but anyhow, It is like buying windows xp home and then getting xp pro. You HAVE to pay. There are illegal ways of getting it but you are on your own there. I doubt anyone will tell you. I really don't understand why you should have to update your OS for this. Try putting iTunes on a windows machine and avoid all the drama.
