I was taking a 25mg dose of Celexa a little over a year now for anxiety; I spoke to my doctor about coming off of the medication because most of my anxiety arose after a tramatic car accident almost 2 years ago. He told me to take a pill every other day for a week and after 7 days to stop taking them completely, which I did. This is my second day of not taking the medication and my head feels, I'm not sure how to explain it, kind of "loopy". I was curious to know if this is just a temporary feeling that will go away once the medication completely leaves my system? I've been ok as far as the anxiety goes, it's just this "loopy" feeling that is bugging me...any input is appreciated!

I was on Celexa as well (40mg). I felt odd for about a week or two when I stopped taking the pills. The "loopy" feeling will go away though. I have been off for 6 months now and have no problems. Just give it a few weeks for your body to adjust. BTW - it was prescribed for anxiety in my case as well, not depression (as stated in another user's answer)

Several weeks without using an anti-depressant may be advisable before using Ecstasy (or LSD), due to the possibility of you suffering "serotonin shock". Look it up and make your own decision. Be aware, the huge upswing and subsequent downswing in brain chemical production may leave you feeling very negative emotions and exhaustion after you come down. Xanax is a very dangerous drug because it can be addictive, either by itself or when repeatedly used along with alcohol. Furthermore, if anxiety has been misdiagnosed and is really depression, being a powerful depressant, using Xanax will make you feel worse.I take an anti-depressant, and avoid hallucinogens even though I've used them in the past, and liked them. I'm already taking a drug that manipulates my serotonin level. Taking something else that plays with those levels seems...ill-advised.

I am not sure exactly what you mean by loopy. Do you mean lack of energy or depressed? Most antidepressents/antianxiety medicines stimulate pathways of neurotransmitters (ex seratonin) so when you stop taking them you will get that feeling and it's normal. When I stopped taking mine abruptly I got major headaches so I think as long as you don't get painful reactions you should be fine. Perhaps you need to see if you can work out a little to naturally increase the seratonin levels that your brain may be missing.

The sensations you experience should pass in about a week maybe two. But I am somewhat worried about the speed with which the doctor tapered you. Celexa is an antidepressant, not an antianxiety agent and it stays in the system longer, I'd have tapered you over several weeks. But that is just my opinion. Drink lots of water, stay active and the drug will metabolize out of your system faster.

I came off 60mg of Paxil a while ago and that loopy feeling lasted for about 2 weeks
