Don't get jewelry, she'll get her hopes up when she sees the box. Just get her a nice massage package from a great spa.

She's probably going to be dissapointed no matter what he gets her. A jewelry box will probably just make it more of a letdown. If she likes animals, a kitten or puppy would probably be a good bet...help take some of the edge off of her dissapointment. A nice romantic dinner for two (and a talk about how he wants to get her an engagement ring, but not right now) and a gift of perfume might also work.

Diamond earrings!! Who doesn't love dimaond earrings and they match everything. They are alway the first step towards the engagement ring!!

I'd also suggest steering clear of the jewelry. Even if she is an amazing actress and doesnt show it, she will be very disappointed.
I would also recommend not doing something overly romantic because she may assume that the build up will culminate in him getting down on that knee.

have some fun by maybe leaving some hints around where she'll find them. maybe put pictures by her about a good place to spend vacation, ( have him ask her where she would want to go on her honeymoon if she got married and get some pictures of the place and leave them where she'll see them.

a promise ring is nice, if he actually is planning on marrying her...if not, then she will probably throw that in his face one day, claiming her led her on...lol just speaking from experience.
