I've recently read an article listing all the hazards of sugar. I don't eat a ton of sugar but I do have a sweet tooth, like many people do. I especially enjoy sodas. How much sugar is okay to have?

*EDIT** I don't have a weight problem. I only weigh 115 and am 5'2 so i'm at the ideal weight. I work out 3-5 times a week so i'm pretty healthy...I just enjoy soda and sugar..I don't have a ton but was just wondering how much is considered fine and how much is considered not fine. Thanks!

How much depends also on you age. Children need some sugar..And honey and molasses and stevia are better choices then sugar. When you are above 40 it is better to avoid sugar completely as sugar decreases your immune system and above 40 you are going...down hill. Sugar makes your body acid and every bacteria and or virus parasite and fungus will grow in an acid environment but not in an alkaline environment...maybe I should write this to Hilary...hilarious...Sugar is not beneficial for your teeth and better brush your teeth after you eat sugar. In my household we do not have sugar available and soda's ....be aware. Sodas contribute to gall bladder stones, kidney stones, back pain and cardiac disease..o, I forgot osteoporosis. Diet sodas….a joke these will increase your appetite….
I am not using splenda….it is not healthy either….
When you question sugar and you are a sweet tooth it is possible to reprogram yourself. Diminish your sugar intake each day a little bit and go slow. Your body needs to be reprogrammed. Do you know why the busiest month in hospitals and doctor’s offices Jan – march are? Increase of sugar during the holidays is a big factor. Hopes this helps.

I am glad that you are not overweight and do not have any sugar-related concerns otherwise. I am in the same category as you are - and I count my blessings there -
I have not had any sugar-laden soda in the last 5 years, take only the diet ones, do not use sugar in my coffee etc.
Soda is no good - bad for teeth (all those acids) and bad for sugar levels. As to how much sugar is ok - how about zero? I do use Splenda - a sugar sub - and it is NOT absorbed by the body. Just like having your cake and eating it too :-)

you should watch carbs instead of sugar. Carbs take in sugar things AND foods that turn to sugar like break and pasta. For a diabetic a count of 150 a day is allowed. Somebody with normal levels? probably around 200-250. You're still young. But on top of that you should watch that soda stuff. My son and others have had kidney problems from coke flavored sodas. My niece is now wondering if the lemon and ginger ale are doing it to her. And did you know that cola is used to remove paint and rust? And people clean their BBQ's with it? Do you wonder what it's doing to your stomach? Not a good one. You really should slow down on the sodas. You're young now and have plenty of time. But my son was around 20 when he started with kidney problems. He was literally addicted to Pepsi. But it's not just Pepsi. It's ALL COLA products. And no. Kidney problems don't run in our family. But cola addiction is showing up more and more.

Mill white sugar is the lesser of the two evils because it is in reality plantation sugar that has been bleached white with sulphur dioxide and isn't any longer sophisticated to get rid of impurities as interior the undemanding sophisticated white sugar which has a protracted shelf existence. After approximately 3 weeks Mill white sugar discolors and clumps because of the unremoved impurities.

i,too take caution to my own sugar intake. artificial sweetners are not good, but splenda is good for you;just enough is for taste. sodas i look up to 29 grams of sugar which is good and i never had a high sugar level. sweets in moderation;pick ones that are low in sugar and aren't too sweet like a danish. read labels as that will let you know the amount of sugar daily to see how well you are or aren't doing. coffee is great with low fat milk and a packet of sugar. key here is moderation.

It's not just the sugars you eat. The Starches that you eat turn into sugar. So you need to eat very little thing with sugars, but when you mix sugars and sugars from starches that is when you get into trouble.

SUGAR: "The Evil Food Group" it's called.
I'd say about 3 5ths of sugar a-day would be okay.

I would avoid all sugar unless it's organic and the less the better. Refined sugar is one of worst things you can put in your body and should be eliminated from your diet completely.
