My dog does this too, and I keep her nails SHORT. My dog does this because she is crazy. She is a nice, quality dog. But she spent the first three years of her life in a kennel envrionment without enough interaction. Most of her idiosyncrasies have righted themselves in the last 9 months. And she doesn't chew on her nails as much anymore either. However, I doubt she will ever stop doing it completely. I figure it doesn't hurt her, (as she never gets her toes, only her nails), so why worry about it, other than to give her a healthy, balanced home. I guess I pick my battles. In short, it could be caused from nervousness, psychotic tendencies, or several other things. Just make sure that you right anything that may be causing it. Some dogs are just nervous by nature though, and there is nothing you will be able to do to completely alleviate it.

Like the others this is usually a sighn of them needing to be clipped, your local groomer or vet can do this. If it is not the nail length, the nail bed at the paw may be irriteted, anything can cause this from grass to carpet fibers and cleaners. Dogs have allergies just like humans. Look at the base of the nail and see if it is either red, swollen or irriteted in any way. If it is you may need to see a vet

Dogs usually do this when their nails need to be clipped. If you dont know how to tell, bring her to a groomer. Most will do nail trims for under $10 on a walk-in service. Check the yellow pages for dog groomers.

My first dog never did, but my current two boys do. It's one of a few reasons,,,her nails are too long or it's generated due to boredom, being nervous or allergies. Mine do it during the winter (snow) months also, so their's aren't due to allergies. If her nails are long and you do not know how to clip them (YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL!!), take her to either a groomer, your Veterinarian's Tech, PetSmart or Petco. It is very uncomfortable for them when their nails are too long! If she is only biting her nails and not licking or chewing on her paws, I doubt that it's an allergy. But only your Veterinarian can answer this.

dogs nails should be trimmed once a week.... very easy to do if you get proper instruction... since she is a house dog,, her nails are probably VERY LONG because she isn't able to wear them down outside..... have her nails clipped ASAP

Wow, very proficient dogs. If there is not any signal of a rash or an infection or the size of thm nerve-racking him, than he ought to likely be doing this out of boredom. My dogs licks her ft and the vet informed us they were boredom licks, call or ask your vet to be advantageous and in case you bypass to the vet element to the precise section the position he licks.

they are probably too long and need to be clipped, you can do it yourself with special clippers or go to a groomers or the vets office for this.
