In short, Britain created a little Jewish state inside the Arab world, then the UN told the Arabs that they should accept that. The Arabs didn't (naturally) and always fought the Israelis. The West supported Israel with every weapon known to man. In the six day war, the US and Europe supported Israel even more at their time of need, so the two primary Arab nations (Syria and Egypt) fighting were actually fighting Israel, the US and some European countries, which would be too much. Naturally, they lost. The lesson is Israel would be nothing without US and European support. Owing to that constant support, Israel is able to commit endless massacres against civilians and get away with it.

Israel used the good offices of the USA and promised not to attack and the dumb Arabs believed in the USA that Israel will not attack them 1st. The war was conducted on Arabs land but next war its not going to be so. Now Israeli know well what dose it mean to have a war on Israeli lands. Its a new ball game.
