If you are in the US your best choice is to get a supplemental
dental plan. The eHealthPlus membership for example will
save you 25% to 60% on your braces. Also, you can independently
use a payment plan with the dental office. Be sure to find dentists
on the plan in your area. Search by zip code.

I am getting braces, and have no dental insurance. If you live near a Bright Now Dental office, they have the best payment plan I have found, and really think they do great work. There was a coupon at Bright Now Dental.com for 20% off dental work over $200. They quoted me for braces for 2 years, and it came to $4,000. Then they took the 20% off, and it came to $3,200. I had to have $800 down, and then 24 payments of $106. They let me put only $475 down and add the other$325 to the last of my payments. I'm not sure where your located, but if you go to there site you can see if there is one in your area. They may also give a discount for doing 2 kids at once. If not you could always have one get them, and wait till they get them off and get them for the other one. Hope this helps you. Just check as many places as you can. I am almost 30 just getting them, and wish I would have done it long ago. Your kids will appreciate it when they are older.

Yeah, most insurances wont cover braces because they consider it to be cosmetic. but yeah, you are looking at a pretty big expense. I am 25 years old and I have brace. I only have them on my bottom teeth and my teeth were not too bad, but I am paying $800 over an 8 month period. most dentist offices let you make payments like $100 per month. But the average a person will spend on braces per child is between $2000 to $3000, so good luck with that! I will be honest with you, it is quite a hassel having braces, you will have to go every three weeks to get them tightened, you will have to deal with two kids with very sore teeth every three weeks, you have to take extra good care of your teeth when you have braces to prevent fooding packing in the teeth and causing decay. But with all of the bad things stated, it is definitely worth it!!!!! it is worth it to have nice teeth for self esteem! Second if the teeth are really out of place, it is more likely that food will get packed in there and if not taken care of properly, will cause decay. If the decay is not taken care of, the teeth will need a root canal which could cost you $1500 a tooth or even worse, the tooth could be so bad it has to be pulled, so in the long run, get the braces, take good care of the teeth and you will save in the long run!!!

You have several options, most dental plans if they cover braces cover very little. If you know for a fact that your kids are going to need braces a lot of orthodontist allow you "pre-pay", while investing is always good for retirement, college etc., why no just pre-pay the bill call your orthodontist of choice or shop around and ask them what they have available most of the time they are interest free. If you have an extra $20.00 (he he) go ahead and invest for yourself or a much higher bill like college. Check out the pre paid plans first. Good luck.

Putting money away is never a bad thing, #1. Look in your local phone book for different orthodontists...and talk to them. You will probably have better luck with groups. My parents took me to a private practice and he was able to allow them to lock into a plan. This was back in 1978--$1000 for everything. Now, obviously it is going to be a little different today.
I also have 2 kids that are going to need braces. Fortunately, my plan has an ortho group that has me pay $500 for each child, not including accessories (there are different things--depending on the issue(s) of the patient.). Good luck!

I had to get financing for my daughter's braces. Capital One financed for me but then sold it to a company called CITCustomerEdge. It's better to go the route you are thinking of as far as saving but there are companies out there that will finance if need be.
