I've tried every diet. Im overweight and need to lose a good amount of weight. I've been on the low carb diet for 2 weeks now and following it to a "T", ive also been exercising on the treadmill but haven't seen any results and everyone said in the first 2 weeks I would lose 10-15 pounds because it was such a change in my body. I saw the doc yesterday and he told me to just "diet" by eating 3 meals a day, don't restrict any food except fast food or really greasy food and exercise and that I would lose weight just fine...my question is, has anyone done both these diets and if so which one worked better? or do you have any tips for me to start shedding weight? Thanks!

Ok, I was on every diet myself and I found that eating 3 meals a day made me cranky and hungry. I lost about 50 pounds eating 4-5 small meals throughout the day and exercise every day. Also if you want to lose weight you will have to restrict certain foods, like sweets and anything fattening. You may not like it at first but you really will feel so much healthier. Also you will need to count calories. You should be eating roughly 10 calories per pound of body weight if you're trying to lose weight (ie, you weigh 120 and want to lose weight, eat 1200 calories.) unless you're very overweight, in which you should be having no more than 1500-1800.

As far as the low carb diets, I have known a lot of people who lost weight on them but not one has kept it off. It's very difficult to adhere to a low carb diet long-term.

Good luck!

I have done both diets. The low carb diet doesn't work because you may lose all your weight, but once you start eating carbs again, the weight is going to come back. Follow what your doctor says, it is effective. And remember, dieting and being healthy is a lifestyle change, not something to be done for a couple of months. Good Luck!

Have you had your thyroid checked? If you can not loose weight with any diet and you follow them faithfully and exercise, then there might be something else going on. If your doctor does not want to test you, get a second opinion. It is important, if you have an under active thyroid, it can lead to other health problems if not treated. My brother has hypothyroid and it took a long time before anyone checked it because it is not a common thing in men, so doctors have a tendency to not look for it. But when they finally did, they said it looked like his thyroid wasn't working at all.

Just cut calories. It's the only thing that really matters in the end.
