i looked it up in a translator but do you say "le grand-pere" or just grand-pere? because then wouldn't it be saying "the grandfather how was your life.."

help any french speakers.

I am french if you ask a question, you say grand-père and do not use the article

I do not know if toucan is slang; In french it is a bird with big beak

My kids call their grandfather "Grand-papa" and always "tu" never "vous".
You could maybe say "mon grand-père" (my grandfather) but you're right, "le grand-père" doesn't work.

I love Bea Arthur, and the Golden Girls, and Y&R, so I think it would have been wonderful to have had her on the show. I think she would have made it something better. But I do love Jeanne Cooper as Mrs.C so I wouldn't want to lose her. I'm going to miss my favorite Golden Girl!
