Some women have tons of prelabor symptoms...and some (like me) don't do a darn thing until labor starts. My water never broke until I was in transition. I lost the mucous plug after the doctor stripped my membranes...but not even that put me in labor. But once labor started...then a baby was born about 8 hours later.

I had similar symptoms when I went into labor...Trust me, sometimes, you don't go into labor until your water breaks.

Four days before I had my daughter, I went to my doctor's appointment. I was 2cm dialated. She told me it was a good thing she was on call all weekend because she said she'd be surprised if I was in for my appointment the following week. My husband and I did a lot walking. Two days later, I started contracting. I'd had braxton hicks for a good part of my pregnancy so I just watched the clock. They started like braxton hicks but they got stronger and closer. I told my husband and he's like "Let's do some more walking" By that afternoon, I called my doctor because they were 30 minutes apart. She said "Go to the ER when they're about 10-7 minutes. I'll be surprised if you're not in by 10pm" I was like "okay. We might be having a baby tonight". I checked into the ER at 9:30pm. I was still having contractions. They checked me. I hadn't changed in FOUR DAYS! They let me labor for a little whille then checked me again. Still no change. They decided to send me home. No sooner had the nurse left to get my discharge papers then I felt a gush down there. I told my husband to get the nurse. My water broke. The nurse said I wasn't going anywhere now. It started to pick up from there. Twelve hours later, we had our baby girl.

Sometimes it takes four days and sometimes it starts once the water breaks. It will come, honey. Hang in there!!! Remember, walking helps immensely. If nothing else, it will help you refocus your mind and it makes labor easier.

I didn't get any of the 'pressure down below and back ache' stuff, though I was still pretty uncomfortable for the last few months.

I had braxton hicks on and off for 6 weeks before I went into labour, mostly in the evenings,

I was scheduled for an induction at 10 days overdue but woke up at 3am in the morning wiith more contractions. They did feel different from braxtons straight away though - I got cramping pains like period pain during each contraction. The braxton hicks hadn't been painful before - just amusing to watch and wierd to feel. So I didn't need inducing after all - by the skin of my teeth!

I did not have any contractions until I went into real labor. I didnt have a bloody show either. I thought my baby was never going to come at the rate I was going. However, I had very loose bowels for about a week before I delivered. I know that is a sign that your body is getting ready for labor. I pretty much just woke up in labor 9 days before my due date. Its normal not to have a lot of signs with your fist baby. My husband and I had a lot of intercourse. I know it can be very uncomfortable but it will make your baby come sooner I promise. Good Luck and Congratulations!

I had my first 5 days late. I didn't feel anything until the day I gave birth. The baby never dropped, I never felt any pressure, my back didn't hurt, my water didn't break. I had a little bloody show around 9am, had mild labor pains 10 minutes apart around noon, full blown real labor pains around 5pm (5 mins apart) and delivered her at 1am.

With my second I had mild BH contractions that started around 4pm (they were actually labor pains but I had no idea since they didn't hurt that bad). Around 8pm we decided to go to the hospital just to be safe (his due date was 2.5 weeks away). Got to the room at 9:20pm and was 4cm. At 9:45pm he was born. Yes, it was THAT quick...no time for an epidural. With him he didn't drop, never had any pelvic pressure, no backache, and he came out still IN his bag of waters. I had bloody show about 10 minutes before he was born.

I would just tell you to be ready at any moment. Good luck and I know you will do just fine :)

I was a week late with my first son and I was only 137lbs, so I was really small and they had to enduce me. I had no contractions the actual labor, so yeah it could happen all of a sudden. Some advice that worked for me, is that after you get the epidural ( if you are) go to sleep on you side and the labor will fly by. My labor lasted only 6 hours and I slept through 5 hours of it. well good luck and remember that the baby will come when he/she is ready or the doctors enduce you.

good luck

Well, I felt real sick. Like I had the flu. I felt like I was going to have diarrhea. I just felt out of it...just not normal but not contractions like I thought i would. I just felt sick and tired.

So as the day went along I tried to sleep and eat. I just felt sick, then I felt real sick and was in the bathroom for a while. And you know when your sick you just want to relax...so i took a bath still feeling sick to my stomach.

And then came the part where if you ever had the flu and you want to poo and barf at the same time...that was me. I was so sick. Throwing up, thought i had to poo. But the stomach cramps were just stomach cramps to me. Then the pressure became so bad that I couldn't sit or stand, I was up and down...because of the pressure.

Then I new i was in labor because of that I could barely walk but my contractions were all off. They were not coming every so many minutes or what ever. I called an ambulance and they said oh I have plenty of time. Although I had been in labor since early morning and it was now like six or so. But I didn't have a car and we went to the hospital.

When I arrived I was at 8. I could hardly walk, it felt like the kid was going to fall out the pressure was so extreme. My water never broke. They had to break it and i never had that show either.

You won't miss it when it comes...the contractions are so intense there is no way you could not know. I mean it took me longer to actually know...i think i knew but was in denial...maybe my pain tolerance is high. Who knows.

But you will know when you had a contraction. YOu may or may not have your water break. But when you get extremely bad period cramps coming and going and your entire stomach tightens up...you will know...its time to go.

I suggest going sooner than later...the sooner you get there the sooner you can get what you want. I didn' thave enough time to get waht I wanted.

I had Braxton-hicks contractions for about a month. But no baby. The doctor scheduled me for a cescerian on a monday. Saturday before, I started having contractions and they just felt different. Plus I was nesting. Spending alot of time in the baby's room, making homemade TV dinners for hubby etc. I waited at home until 11pm. I then went to the hospital. We walked the halls for hours. Hubby Bill used a rolling pin on my lower back. At about 8am, my water broke and all hell broke loose! About 8:30, hubby Bill looked under the sheet and declared, "OMG, I see a head! As they wheeled me to the only delivery room another woman was on her way there too. She looked at me, asked if it was my first. I said, yes and she said, take her in this is my 3rd. Same doctor delivered both babies. They say she coughed twice and the baby shot out. Mine was a forecepts delivery. It's been 31 years and it seems like yesterday.

Sounds like the early stages! Which can happen up to 2 wks or so prior to delivery. Have you had a spurt of energy yet? Just watch for the signs of the plug (show), and the water breaking or the contractions that are consistent and regular! Get your bag packed and the car seat ready, cause it won't be much longer! By now you should be going to the doctor once a week! Congratulations and Best wishes to you and your family! God Bless you all!

You can try whatever you want to. I've heard that castor oil can give you diahrea and isn't good for the baby. I took a lot of walks during the last month of my pregnancy. I went for a walk around the block about once a day. On my son's due date, August 29th, I went for a walk around the block twice and my water ended up breaking at 2:40AM on August 30th so walking may have helped but he may also just have been ready to come out. There's really no guarenteed method to getting your baby to come out. Certain things can help the process but it's different for each woman.
