Xians will say that was part of the "old law" that was replaced by Jesus teaching and sacrifice. Except they still follow a variety of old laws when it suits them. ( now why god wanted jews to cut a piece of skin off their penises to honour him is beyond me...i'm sure that's all part of it's mysterious ways. LOL)
The real reason is in terms of the early church "marketing" itself to gentiles. In the early days, christianity was really just a modified version on judaism, but gentiles were not comfortable with the mutilation of their genitals.
There are no legitimate medical reasons for routine infant circumcision, and various medical groups have taken stands against the practice except for religious or cultural reasons.

1 Cor.7:19--to answer your question. The unimportance of circumcision of the flesh (in religious terms) is mentioned in many places in the Scriptures.

Why is circumcision needed? There is no medical reason for it. Maybe it helps prevent STD's but so do condoms. So it isn't needed. The only reason it is practiced is for religious reasons, which I would not follow anyway. I don't let a book tell me I should cut off a part of my son.

It does not say that. The major reason for fewer circumcisions today is that it has been shown not to be as medically necessary as when I first entered the nursing profession forty years ago.

I believe you should take the bible as a whole, not picking and choosing what best fits you for what you want to hear. I believe it is still asked of us parents to continue with the covenant.

9And God said to Abraham, As for you, you shall therefore keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.
10This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your posterity after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
11And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a token or sign of the covenant (the promise or pledge) between Me and you.
12He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male throughout your generations, whether born in [your] house or bought with [your] money from any foreigner not of your offspring.
13He that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money must be circumcised; and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14And the male who is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.

It was either Peter or Paul who put an end to it. Men were afraid to become christian because, for a while, the rule was you had to be jewish first. That meant a grown man had to be circumsised. They decided that it was ok to just skip being jewish and go straight to christianity.
