She's scared and alone! Any young pup is going to cry until she gets readjusted to your home and the fact that she is away from her mother and littermates.

Try putting a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel in with her at night. It will keep her warm and comfort her.

Also, you may wish to invest in a stuffed animal that makes the heartbeat sounds. I know they sell them in the baby department at most stores. This, combined with the water bottle, will make her feel that she is not alone, and she'll sleep more peacefully at night.

Good luck!

my shih tzu is also 9 weeks old but I think he thinks I'm his mom cause he sleeps with me. I put him in bed with me and when I turn off the light and lay down he comes near me and falls asleep in my arms. It's so cute! Then he wakes me up couple times a night cause he makes this very gentle barking sound...i guess he was dreaming. But when he is sleeping...he is knocked out! he doesn't wake up even if I pick him up.
He hasn't learn to bark yet.
Maybe you should take away the blanket of the mother's smell so that she can get use to your smell. Also darkness and soft pillows help my puppy fall asleep. I also noticed that my pookie likes to cover his face in between pillows or under the sheet when he goes to sleep. Maybe providing many pillows and towels may help.
Good luck!

Oh by the way if she is inside the crate cover the crate with a thin blanket so that she can't see you. My roommate's dog is very aggressive so I keep my puppy inside a crate when I'm not home and he cries like a little baby. So when I cover the crate so he can't see me he stops and falls asleep.

All puppies go through it - all you can do is be patient, don't give in to her when she cries or she'll learn that she gets out when she does and it'll take a long time to get her to quit.

Try to get her a lot of exercise before bed time. Give her a walk in the evening, lots of play time to tire her out, maybe put a toy or two in her crate with her. She's only 9 weeks, it takes time to get a puppy used to staying in her crate all night.

Hey there. You need to do 2 things:
1. Get her happier about being in her crate. Feed her in there, and only let her have chewies and treats like that in there, not out in the house. Make it exciting and fun for her to be in there - toss treats in there whenever you think of it. Think of making deposits into the bank account of her being in her crate, and try to rack up as much as possible.
2. You and everyone else in your family must ignore her when she fusses in her crate. It will be hard and you need a lot of patience, but your dog would prefer to be yelled at and told to be quiet than to be ignored. If you shush her/speak firmly to her, that will only teach her to keep crying, since she gets attention for it. Be sure that she's pottied before you put her in, and then ignore her. She will settle eventually, but you must be consistent about this! Hope I helped.

She's a little dog, so just let her sleep with you. Our dog (a rescued bichon-poodle mix) sleeps with us, or with one of the kids. She also like a bedtime routine. They are so much like kids!
