Yes definitely you are suffering from some sort of psychotic disorder. Its actually tough to point out the disease you are suffering from without talking to you in person. But be warned and better hurry up and visit a psychiatrist or else situation may worsen and you may loose control over yourself.Act Quickly.

Hello Darren,
it sounds like you are going through a very rough spot in your life right now, and I can relate to this- I have been diagnosed with a depression that is much like this!
One moment I am chirpy and very happy and then the next for reasons I can't understand I become so depressed that I as well can't eat- then at night I cant sleep but I could sleep all day at the same time!
Now I will tell you I have been diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder and as well I have ADHD and ANXIETY then at times I am Clinically Depressed aswell!

BUT THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE THIS!!! It is hard for anybody non professional to diagnose any one even if they are simular, Also a Doctor would have to see you for a series of days to even months before giving you a true diagnosis!!! So with out knowing you more personal and seeing how your body languages are, How you present your self it would be very UN ETHICAL For anybody professional or not to tell you what you are suffering from exactly!
So please remember this as you are reading the answers others provide you with!

Also Please know that this can be a temporary thing but that even a temporary depression can last for years-- so don't allow your self to suffer and see a Doctor or at first a counselor because an untreated Emotional Depressive State can become MUCH MUCH WORSE-- And I know this because I did exactly that and now I am permantly disabled for many things that all are considered Emotional Weekness'!

I sure hope that I was able to help you!!!

Yes, it does sound like depression with anxiety. The problem you have with swallowing is an anxiety symptom, your throat tenses up. This is fairly common in people with high anxiety.

I really do think you need to contact your doctor about these symptoms so you can get good professional help and the right referral. If you ignore these symptoms then they could worsen.

In the meantime, try to practise relaxation exercises. Get yourself a relaxation CD, the ones that talk you through it are the best (Paul McKenna has a good one). Take time out in your bedroom and ask not to be disturbed. Go through the exercises lying on your bed with the lights low or off.

Do this daily, once you have mastered the art of relaxation you will be able to relax deeply whenever you need to. It will really help with some of your symptoms so stick at it.

I have had recurrent depression for a number of years so I understand a little of what you are going through.

Hope that helps, best wishes.

Depression most certainly gives you these symptoms. I have also been there. You need to see a doctor because there may be something underlying there that you don't realise is upsetting you more. You need a Psychiatrist or therapist to help you sort out your feelings. No family members, it has to be one on one couseling from a nutral party. You should probably be on an anti depressent. As for annorexia, this is the beginning stages of depression and yes the not eating part is/are symptoms of this but its too early to tell. Thats why you need to see a couselor to help you. Also your appitite should improve with anti depressants and therapy. You are a good person. Take care Heather

Firstly, as far as your additional details go, feeling physically sick when you look at food is not the start of anorexia. If when you look at food the thought of eating it fills you with panic and dread because you're scared of the calories and fat involved and what that might do to you then that is another issue but what you describe in your initial question in terms of food is not typically anorexic.
It is not the case that if you have depression you are constantly crying and swimming in misery, it is perfectly normal for these type of feelings to come and go, but this means that they can be constant as well as intermittent. It is also typical of depression to find yourself crying, quite often for no apparant reason.
Your first port of call will have to be your GP, so that you can get a diagnosis and treatment. The problem with depression is that it can be difficult to establish what it is that is making you feel this way and this is where counselling comes in useful. In the UK, unless you pay to go private to someone who doesn't ask for a GP referral, then again your first port of call in getting a counsellor is still seeing your GP, so I think this is where you should start.
There are a lot of good sites that cover depression but I would recommend MIND as the best place to start. The best advice I can give you is to get this treated as soon as you can- the longer depression goes untreated the worse you will feel. Good luck.

When I get depressed I will either eat a lot or nothing at all. Everything seems like its in slow motion. I wake up in the morning crying, on my way to work in the car crying, going to sleep crying and then I wake up fine. When I have a good day Im afraid to go to sleep fearing I will wake up all down again. Are you seeing a doctor? Maybe try seeing a therapist so you can just start talking about anything until what is really bothering you surfaces. I know personally I never know what is bothering me at a given moment. Its always good to get in touch with youself its kinda like a release.

Tell a doctor how you feel. Some people lose their appetite when they have depression. It is called anorexia, but you;'re probably thinking about Anorexia Nervosa; which is an eating disorder where people (usually young girls) have a distorted body image. Some people have depression and they eat too much. I work in mental health, and I have chronic depression. I tended to eat more when depressed, but everybody isn't the same.

Hi Darren,
Yes loss of appetite is a symptom. I lost 2 stone in a few weeks. Didn't feel like eating, when I did, it was like chewing cardboard. Some days I was actually dizzy with lack of food. My doctor put me on an SSRI, citalopram, it flattened out the bad feelings, like suicidal ones, and appetite returned. I would suggest you see your doctor, get short term drug support if he thinks it appropriate, and ask for some counselling from the local mental health services. Its free, and I found them to be very helpfull and caring. They will help you find the root cause, and even refer you higher if needed. Don't be embarrassed, as one in four people will experience an episode of mental illness during their lifetime. Whatever you do, don't suffer in silence, depression feeds itself in a downward spiral if you let it. Good luck on getting better !!

Yes, this sounds like depression and not anorexia. When a person is tense, it makes them not want to eat... You have no energy level and food just doesn't sound good.

What things have been stressing you out lately? Are you getting enough rest at night? By not getting enough sleep, this adds stress to your dailly routine.

Hope you find answers. Keep a diary or daily log fo your moods to see if you can see a pattern.
