i have been diagnosed with anxiety and mild depression. i am on lexapro 10 mg and have been for about 2 weeks. i am also seeing a therapist but it is very hard for me to do anything. when i have no plans i feel fine and sleep/watch tv a lot. when i do have to do anything (even go to the therapist) I feel very nauseous, dizzy, and can't eat. it is becoming rediculous. what can i do to help me get back to life faster?

I think the anxiety comes from the conflict you feel when you have to go out into the world and apply yourself. It can be a nasty world out there, but you can go and do your thing by just putting your best foot forward. The more you take it step by step, the easier it will become. When you feel the start of the anxiety, ask yourself why. Try to see what it is that's causing the conflict. I bet you will see that it's your own reaction to some stress, so you really need to work on yourself because you won't change the world. It's all about working on ourselves, how we can relate to the stress of life without personally reacting. A different way of looking at the stress and conflict will get you on your way.

Don't just deal with the symptoms; look at the root cause too.

See if you can register in an anxiety workshop. Medication helps a little, but I am not much of a talker during therapy sessions so they have never helped me. I guess it helps if you are depressed and need to vent, but I am not that type of person. What you need is to talk your therapist and see if s/he can refer you to an anxiety workshops. They usually have sessions every few months. Most of them are ten week programs, and they help you come to terms with your anxiety. Figure out exactly what the problem is and help you be proactive about it.

Sounds like you have a case of nerves. I would suggest valium 5 mg. and:
Get up in the morning and take the dog for a walk or take yourself for a walk.
Avoid caffeine.
Take long hot baths.
Listen to comedy movies or read humerous stories.
Remember that everybody feels like this from time to time.
Be honest with the therapist.
Good luck and peace!

i have been in this situation and on lexapro before and my therapist gave me this advice: lay down, close your eyes, and imagine yourself relaxing at your favorite place. then, starting from your toes and working your way up, tense every muscle and then slowly release until you get to your head.

I feel for you. I've been there. My advice to you is that you need to feel wanted. Try helping someone, doing volunteer work. It doesn't have to be something big. It only has to be appreciated. You will feel better knowing that there are people out there who would be happier if you woke up, put on your clothes and went out to help them. Try this. Good luck! You'll be in my prayers.
