Timber is solid wood, laminate is laminated flooring
Some laminates have real wood laminated to a hard fibreboard.
Some laminates have a fake wood-look printed pattern laminated to the board... you need to look at what you like and not how it's made unless you insist on solid wood... then ask a salesperson to show you solid wood only and no laminates.
There are benefits to each but in most cases; solid wood adds more value to the property but is easier to mark and scratch than a laminate.

Laminate is a picture of wood glue to a man made substance, that my husband refers to as glit- glue @ -hit. Laminate is pure garbage and swell like a sponge, when scratched has to be replaced, which involves taking up the entire floor. I wouldn't let anyone talk you into using laminate. Real wood is beautiful, hardy, can be refinished, and increases the value of your home. Home Depot sells real wood, unfinished and finished, finished would be a special order. If your willing and able, you could purchase the unfinished and do it yourself and have a beautiful floor.

Of course timber flooring is better. Timber Floors are ecologically friendly. Since it is a natural resource, timber is both renewable and recyclable. When you have hardwood flooring installed, there are just as many advantages as disadvantages of having this type of floor. Many people would prefer to have a hardwood floor than carpet, especially in the hallways, living room, and kitchens. It is much easier to keep a hardwood floor clean than carpet. If you are thinking of replacing your carpet for hardwood floors, there are many types and styles to choose from. Before you make any decision as to which type and style you would like, you should visit your home improvement store to see what they have.
